History of SPAGRO

This garden (SPAGRO) was inherited by our grandfather Haji Ahmed Bakhsh from his forefathers in 1940. At that time there was only one type of native mango in Khairpur region. Haji sb. was very fond of gardening. In 1951, he brought some varieties of mangoes from Multan & Mirpur Khas. Few other plants like Moringa (Sahjanah), Orchid tree (Kuchanar), Clammy Cherry (Lasuda ) and Jujube fruit (Ber) were brought and harvest by Haji Ahmed Bakhsh to Khairpur district, from which jujube fruits are still known by his name i.e. “Haji wale ber”. After the demise of Haji Ahmed Bakhsh, his elder son, Maulana Badur Uddin, took care the management of the fruit farm, which subsequently became well-known under his name i.e. AL-BADAR FRUIT FARM.

IN 1978, Maulana Badaruddin received gift of 2 types of dates from Dates Research Center, Kot Diji, Khairpur, which he planted in fruit farm.

1. Red Dried Date (Nar Choara)

2. Aab-e-Dandaan

In 1993, upon discovering several late varieties of mango, he ordered and planted these new varieties on the farm. He also introduced a new variety of mango named SADABAHAR, which matures and is ready for harvest in January. The following year, he planted another new variety called SHAN-E-KHUDA.

In 1998, after demise of Maulana Badar Uddin; his younger brother Maulana Saddar Uddin assumed responsibility for managing the fruit farm.

In 2000, the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) held the first Dates Exhibition in Khairpur. AL-BADAR FRUIT FARM won first place and was awarded a shield by TDAP-GoP.

In 2002, the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) organized the second exhibition at the Karachi Expo Center, Karachi. Once again, AL-BADAR FRUIT FARM secured first position and was presented with a shield by TDAP-GoP.

In 2010, AL-BADAR FRUIT FARM participated in a food festival held in Al-Ain, UAE, organized by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP). Various types of dates cultivated at the fruit farm were showcased during the event. During the same year, Maulana Saddar Uddin received a gift of Medjool date plants, which are bearing fruit. Medjool is known as “The Fruit of Kings”, having a sweet, caramel taste and chewy texture.

AL-BADAR FRUIT FARM took part in the Dates Exhibition held in Sri Lanka in July 2011, and in Malaysia in November 2014.

In 2014, Hafiz Zubair Ahmed, son of Maulana Badar Uddin, brought three (03) new varieties of dates from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia:

1. Ajwa

2. Sukkari, and

3. Sagai

During the same year, Maulana Saddar Uddin cultivated new varieties of mangoes in the fruit farm, namely Azeem Wala and Rattay Wala.

In 2023, following the passing of Maulana Saddar Uddin, his son Maulana M. Safdar assumed responsibility for managing the fruit farm. Under his stewardship, a new variety of mango, known as Chanab Gold, was cultivated, alongside the introduction of lychee and custard apple plants.
